They're great at fixing old locks or fitting locks on thick doors.

Came out to make a key for my friend's Volvo. Took them 3 and a 1/2 hours. The next day the car doesn't start. Come to find out the car needed a transponder key, Which they apparently couldn't make. So we had to take the keyback to the locksmith store. He had to wait around so they could figure out how to put the money back on the card it came from. What a waste of time in such a hassle! I wouldn't recommend these guys if they were the last place on Earth to get a key made.

My sister came to town and needed a large number of keys made. They did so in about 15 minutes (maybe less). And didn't make keys she didn't need though she thought she did. The organized all keys and told us what she needed. Fast inexpensive and saved us money. Great guys all of them!

Generally when you walk into a place of business, it's very common for an employee of some sort to greet, welcome or just say hello when you walk in. Not this place. In fact pending on your (Let's just say look) determines the kind of tone & overall service you might get. Had it not been for the fact that I had another customer before me with different (Let's just say look) getting kind & friendly service, I wouldn't have anything to compare these two very drastically different forms of service. Lastly, I wasn't even acknowledged until the other customer was gone.

I personally find this to be extremely weird or rude behavior. There's another word for it, but I'm drawing a blank. Customer service should still be a thing even if you don't look like the customer before me or the employees. I'm just saying.

These guys were great! They got 4 sets of 3 keys made in less than 20 minutes. And they all work flawlessly. Awesome job guys! If I need more keys made I'll be coming here.

I was very worried about the cost of replacing a fob key for a car. My son lost his key, the only one he had. I called a few other places, Some wanted to charge 30 and 40 dollars just to look and see if they could do it. (Not! ) Bates Lock and key was Great! I highly recommend. The tech (Ken) went above what I expected. With a very reasonable cost. Very impressed. Thank you.

So you don't care about locksmith's until you need a locksmith.we've had this sad, old deadbolt on our back door for 20 years and I had bought a new electronic lock a few years earlier but didn't want to switch it out until we actually needed it. The key gets stuck sometimes when you are trying to lock it and my husband, in his infinite wisdom, decides to try to turn the key with a vice grips - so the key breaks right off in the lock.

So we were able to get the lock out but the new lock wouldn't fit and the door needed to be cut for the bigger lock. So I called 2 locksmiths and the 1st one told me they would have the dispatcher call me back and Bates (who my Dad used to use at Virginia and Bates years ago) who I called 2nd and spoke to Ken right away - said they could schedule me for same day at 1pm which was perfect! Ken showed up right on time (I mean who does that;o) and fixed our lock for the price he told me and it's working great! OH and btw, the other locksmith called at 12:45pm and I told them we had someone else and they said they didn't know if they could show up the same day or not (how do you not know that)!

Not to mention their name but they are local and located on Lindbergh - I'm sure they are a fine company but we would have had to live with a hole in our door until they decided they could show up.

So iv been using them sinse 2002 when i moved to dutchtown. Very friendly very knoligable we've gave him a lock. For a camper traler and we still made a key

I have been using Bates since they were actually on Bates & Virginia. They are next to the Dierbergs on Lemay Ferry now. Very professional, & knowledgeable. Eager to help. This is the only place I go to have keys made. They have cartoon character keys along with "normal" keys. They also sell different types of padlocks & safes. Next time you need a key made, check them out.

Bought a used truck and the tailgate lock didn't match the door key. Brought the lock in and they re-keyed it to match my other locks no problem in about 15 minutes. Other places wanted me to make an appointment and were going to charge me three times the price. Will definitely go back to Bates Street Lock!

I was a little bit embarrassed to go in and make my request which was would they make a copy of a key when I brought my own key blank (I recently moved back home to St Louis from New Mexico and brought my favorite Day of the Dead key blank with me). The gentleman said it was no problem and copied my key and was also kind enough to educate me a bit on key blanks and brands and other specifics about keys.

I found this information very interesting and very helpful. The service was fast, the key copies worked perfectly and I learned something new. I can't ask for better than that!

Needed a safe moved and the team showed up early and ready to work. They professionally moved the safe without any damage to my property or safe. They were fully prepared for various property issues and reacted with a solid plan when faced with a challenging move-in at the new property. When asked, they offered advice on additional products for my consideration with no pushy up sell. This was a great experience and the rate was reasonable.

After I lost my keys (I don't recommend doing this) I had to call a local locksmith. A fellow from Bates showed up within an hour and changed my deadbolts and door locks with little problem. I think I paid about a hundred bucks for the two doors. I don't know if this is highway robbery or not (I'm guessing it's a pretty reasonable price) but it was prompt and friendly service.
