Elgin Key & Lock

I went to Elgin Key & Lock to get a valet key for my VW. Matt was very helpful and took the time to figure out how to cut and program the key for me.

Crew in there needs to watch there tone, gets loud and angry really fast. wouldn't recommend wasted my time in there last week.

Everyone there is super helpful and friendly. I would highly recommend this place over others especially if u have car door lock issues. Matt was the tech who helped us out and he made the process of fixing my door lock and connecting a new key fob hassle free

They are amazing! I brought a jammed safe in and Matt was super helpful, really nice & very knowledgeable! And funny, did I mention funny! Great experience.

I we t to elgin key and co looking for a solution to get my car open. Matt was the one to help me, and he did just that! He was extremely helpful and compassionate about getting my keys to work. He was very patient when I was getting everything organized, which is very important to someone who gets anxious. The store had fair prices and a good variety of selections.

They cut and programed my new extra Camrys Chip key. In and out for under 80 bucks. Stealership wanted over $300 to do the same thing. Never Ever go to a stealership for a replacement key. Be smart and go to these fine folks!

I had a storm door that wouldn't unlock and Elgin Key & Lock came out the same day that I called. John, the technician, quickly assessed the situation and got the door to open within 10 minutes. The price was very reasonable and I would have them come again in a heartbeat.

Matt took my call for locking myself out of a customer car. He helped me look for the key, which we could not find. Then he got me a price to replace the key. Great customer service! Super fast to come out and help me! Definitely would recommend! Cheaper than I anticipated too which was another plus! Hopefully I wont need to use them again but definitely would if i need a locksmith.

Saying well established would be an understatement considering they've been in business since 1933 as posted on the outside if the building. After many failed attempts trying to get a lost key cut for a 1982 Toyota Celica Supra Finally Elgin Key & Lock had the experience and tools necessary to cut a key from a code. They are conveniently located in downtown Elgin behind the Police Station. I was very pleased with the service and the price was very reasonable!

We recently moved into a new-to-us house and needed to have the locks changed. We have four doors to the exterior and three of them have a knob key and a deadbolt so we had seven locks to change. We wanted them all keyed the same. Clark was extremely helpful and did the work as efficiently as I could imagine and the end product is excellent. He was a pleasure to work with. I don't know how prices run for this kind of work and product but I felt his price was very reasonable. Highly recommended!

Husband had 2 keys made for daughters car. Tried them when got her car back from mechanic and neither key worked. I took back following day waited almost 20 minutes told the gentleman I need refund on the 2 keys. He said I needed car there there. Explained was my daughters and she works in city doesn't get back till 7 pm. He said that's not how he refunds.

Would not give me my refund. They are awful at customer service and was surprised how they treat there customers. Not what company used to be. Lived in Elgin all my life. Expected better from them. Will never go back.

Had a great experience with an employee of theirs as well as the company as a whole. When you have no key to your home or car you are placed in a vulnerable position. They didn't exploit that here. In fact they put up with my semi-short attitude at the beginning and found me the best option and price for me. 5/5. Say hi to them when you call, they're good people and they can help.

The door from the garage to the house was locked by accident. I called another locksmith and they kept telling me that they would be there in 15 minutes.an hour later I called Elgin Key and Lock. Someone was actually there in 15 minutes. Took him 30 seconds to gain entrance to my home. Made me another key on the spot. He was great and didn't have to damage my door.

If you have a need for a locksmith would definitely recommend them. They charged me $80 which i didn't think was bad, considering any amount would have been O.K. To get me into my house.

I first used their services when I bought my home 23 years ago. I called them and they had someone to home home within an hour to re-key all the locks so I'd feel safe and secure. I've used them over the years to have new keys made, pick up a new padlock or get new door hardware. Yes, I could probably get the door hardware cheaper at a big box store, but I like the better quality that Elgin Key & Lock Co. offer. Plus, I'm a big supporter of local businesses and there aren't many locksmiths out there.

I want to see them keep providing their services. The best service I received was 8 years ago when I came home from work to find my home had been broken in and lots of things were taken while I was at work. Clark came to my house in less than 30 minutes and had my home re-keyed quickly so I could once again feel safe. They also added better deadbolts.

The service was absolutely horrible! Me and 4 other nursing students commuting from Rockford to Elgin locked the keys in our car and called Elgin key & lock Co. for assistance. In the midst of trying to find out where they were located, and pricing, the gentleman I spoke with began to ramble off rude comments. For instance he didn't want to deal with us if we were paying cash, even after I explained to him that my fellow classmate did not have the money on her card so I would be footing the bill for her IN CASH!.

He proceeded to ask why she could not speak for herself and I explained that she was speaking with her father in regards to another matter and he proceeded to ask, "Well where is his card?!", in the utmost disrespectful tone. At this point I attempted to have another classmate speak to him where he hung up. She called back and he said that he would not want any part in assisting us and hung up on her. Needless to say I would NEVER recommend this business to anyone I come in contact with, and if I had the choice to write this review without giving a star they wouldn't have the one given

Just had a dead bolt installed on our front door, as the previous owners of the house did not have one, which is odd. The guy did a masterful job of installing the dead bolt and was quick in doing it. He was also available right away, so he was at my house within 30 minutes of me calling. The price was very reasonable and was better than what I was thinking it would be. As far as locksmiths go, this place has been my best experience with one. Would recommend them to anyone.

I managed to lock myself out of my house. I drove to Elgin Key & Lock, which I had seen. One block from the Police Station - a good sign. I walked in and Vince was the only one in the shop at the time, so he offered to come to my house shortly after the shop closed, which was very kind. He actually arrived a little earlier than scheduled, and got my door open in the rain, so he did not have to change the locks, saving me quite a bit of cash.

His fee was very reasonable, and he is a really nice guy. He also gave me an after hours number where he can be reached. A very good experience. I recommend him without reservation.

Clark had to drill his way into the broken lock mechanism on my crappy Sentry safe. Work was done "while you wait" and with a smile. I'll be back to this place!

Saved me after locking myself out of my apartment. I was back inside half an hour after calling and paying the bill was a snap as they can process credit on the spot. Hopefully I've learned my lesson but I'll be keeping their phone number handy just in case.
