Joe is a friendly, knowledgable and fair manager. His team mate Michael is also a pleasure to work with. These two re-keyed my 12 unit property and additional locks in a very well planned and organized fashion. Thank you, both!

I called them out and ended up not needing them. Instead of just charging me for time the guy texted my cell and tried to guilt me into giving him money. Unprofessional on the phone.

Succeeded where others failed. I got locked out of my car and I had two other companies in Madison come out and look at the car just to tell me that they wouldn't be able to unlock the car. I called Bill's Key shop and they were confident they could do it, they were fast, and they were pleasant. I can't recommend this business enough for locked cars, it's the real deal.

I gave a call to the emergency line at 6pm and was answered immediately! The man was really kind and offered advice how to get into my lock and it actually worked! So kind and down to earth!

Amazing service. I went in to get a key duplicated on 3/14/22. The gentleman there was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. He took care of me within minutes and the price was unbeatable. Bills Key shop came out late on a Friday. My key snapped in the front door. The locksmith was able to make me a new key on the spot. Thank you!

BEST Reliable service, called again for niebor who was really stuck! Locking oneself outside home is a bit of shock. I lost my keys between my parking spot and my apartment entry. Bill's answered the phone right away and said it take an hour to get to me. 30 minutes later I was in my home. Ready for a good night's rest for early meeting the next morning with hospice.

Bummer, I called early and they gave me the impression that they could install a deadbolt on a door for me. They wanted picture emailed to them, and please do it quickly they would try and fit me in today or tomorrow. I took pictures, sent them and waited for 3 hours. I finally called to be told by another person that they couldn't get to it for at least a week.

I was in the situation of not feeling safe and needing locks added, who the heck when they are in that situation wants to wait a week? In fact I can't think of any situation involving keys and locks i would want to wait a week.

The best! Locked my keys in the car and the service was exceptional. Very quick service, friendly and the price was great!

He was the only one that apparently was open for service that was offered ASAP. Other local shops said they were done or closed for the day. On top of that they were asking way more than Bill's prices. Overall he was very professional and responsive. He treated my call as a crisis and responded quickly as I was in a crisis and locked out my car. It took at least 10 other calls before I found him. Wish he was number one.

These folks are so nice, down to earth, and efficient. I went here for the first time to get some keys copied. They were a little cheaper than Home Depot and some of the other key places in town, but it just felt so much better to walk right in and get exactly what you needed, not to mention support a small business. Just a good, old fashioned small business right in the heart of Madison.

I somehow lost a key ring with a car key (with chip and remote) on it. After searching for weeks, I made an appointment at Bill's Key Shop. Joe and his front office staff were terrific. Made my key, checked that it worked, and charged a reasonable price. I hope I don't lose any other keys, but if I do, I will definitely call Bill's. Terrific service!

We had a lock fail on an entry door, preventing us from getting into the house, and/or locking us out. Bills key shop, came to the rescue, to disable the lock. To make a duplicate key and FOB for my car I asked several lock smiths in the area. Most of them don't do automotive. One of them said that they can do it but the cost would be $250. I called Bill's and they said $68. At first I did not believe what I heard. The price was confirmed and appointment was made. The exactly duplicate key was made in about 20 minutes. I am very satisfied and would recommend Bill's to anyone. Thanks a lot.

Recommended for anyone who is looking to go from older to modern keys. This is the place. They got me in the same day that I called. It took about 15 mins and best part it only cost me $30. Which is a huge saving from the dealership for the same old style key. I purchased the blank key shell separately from Amazon for about $10, and had Bills Key Shop cut them. Note that, I did call a few places but they were the only shop was willing to cut the keys.

Needed a key for our car as the only one we had was lost in the snow. Contacted them and within a few hours they were here with a key and programmed it. Cost was very reasonable compared to other companies we had contacted, especially since we live outside of Madison. Fast service, friendly staff and very reasonable prices. Will definitely contact them again for any key issues and would definitely recommend to anyone

Bills Key Shop saved me yesterday morning! Beyond that, he came within 15 minutes of me calling. No hesitation to help. Got my car open within 3 minutes and I was on my way. He was so friendly, and when he told me the price- I was shocked at how inexpensive it was! If you're in Madison and you're a dummy like me- CALL BILL!

Don't call this guy I can't even give him one star. His ad says that he's 24 hours and to call his number on his message it says if this is an emergency keep calling back so this is what I did I kept calling back this guy when he answered was so rude to me he screamed at me and demanded that I stopped calling him because he can't help out obviously the other person that was making phone calls must have reached him as well unbeknownst to me. However no matter what this is not how you should treat customers don't call this guy cuz he's a jerk!

Fast. Reliable. Dead-on with estimates. Do what they say they will do when they say they will do it. Staff provides helpful suggestions on how to be cost-efficient. I've been using Bill's Key Shop for years and they never disappoint.

Excellent job-came out right away. Had a doorknob that matched our bolt lock and changed the new doorknob to same key as old one so we didn't have to replace keys. Much appreciated

This place is a Madison institution, that has been at the same location for as long as I can remember. Located downtown, it is literally a hole in the wall. They seem to be able to do anything lock related, from cutting keys to rekeying or rebuild locks. They have mobile locksmith services, for installation or 24 hour lockout service. They seem to be able to do anything that is lock related at reasonable prices. Give Bill's a try!

Very accommodating and fast, thank you. I got 4 keys cut for $18.50 in 5 minutes. They have a small selection of safes, heavy duty locks and other small safety items.

Here I am in the Trader Joe's parking lot, excited to get my shopping done before the Sunday crowd. I walk up the steps and realize my keys are not in my hands or purse, I was too focused on making sure I had the Trader Joe's Flyer so I could get all the new stuff. Panic ensues. I turn around and see my keys laying right on my driver's seat.

My sister who has my spare keys is out of town and I'm helpless. All hope appears to be lost. Thank god for the internet device in my hand so I can send snaps to everyone I know. Suddenly I remember locksmiths exist. I open up Google and click on the first one that appears to be open 24 hours. Here's where Bill enters the story. He answers right away, says he'll be there in 30 minutes, and he was there 30 minutes on the dot. Two minutes later, my keys are in my hand. Problem solved. Bill saves the day, all before mass amounts of people show up at Trader Joe's.

Bill's on University and Francis is the place to go for tough motorcycle key issues in Madison. They've helped me out several times over the years, from making a new key from scratch using just a ignition lock cylinder on a vintage Yamaha whose original keys had been lost for decades (less than one day turn-around), to reverse-engineering a worn Kawasaki key (so bad that it'd fall out of the ignition on the highway) to get the cut pattern and manufacturer's key code and then making a perfect new key to the factory-original specs (on the spot in about ten minutes, with no appointment). The prices are always very reasonable, and they are willing to keep on a tough task until they get it solved.

Returned home from a business trip and realized I'd left my keys at my host city. Called the locksmith at 11:30am on a Sunday and within an hour someone was at my apartment on the west side and had gotten the door open for under $100. I was very happy with the speed, price and professionalism of the locksmith, I'd definitely recommend to a friend.

As much as I would like to endorse a small, local business I had a fairly disappointing experience with Bill's Key Shop on University Ave. Apparently because the now bankrupt Saturn manufacturers were difficult to deal with, it's perfectly okay to be completely uncooperative and rude to a Saturn owner. And this was following an email exchange where I was clear about the make and model of my car before I went out of my day to visit their shop. I did find someone else who was happy to have my business instead.

Called for an emergency service, they showed up within 30 minutes, and out within 15 minutes and solved the problem. Less expensive then I was prepared for, very professional and took time to explain EVERYTHING! I'll be using them again!
