Call
Our goal for this site is to answer some of the many questions that our customers call us with each and every day. As you look through the following pages, you will find answers to questions ranging from "Where are you located?" to "What is a masterkey?" Under "About Us, " you will find information about our company history, professional staff, and some of the reasons why Lock Stock & Barrel has been Greater Portland's first choice for quality locksmith and security service for nearly three decades.
Services
Since our incorporation in 1978, Lock Stock & Barrel has provided quality locksmithing services to the Greater Portland area. While we continue to offer the traditional locksmithing services that have made us a leader in the physical security market for over twenty-five years, we have continued to pursue the latest technology and adapt to meet the needs of our customers.
Once upon a time, there was no electrical component to security and access control depended primarily upon who could get keys. This is no longer the case. Most keys can now be duplicated at hardware stores, department stores, and even supermarkets. Increasingly, the security industry has started to turn toward electronics to achieve genuine access control.
To answer the two most common questions we get about keys: yes, we cut most types of them, and no, there is no such thing as a universal master key that opens every single lock on every single door. We frequently get requests from callers to help them open a lock for which there is no working key. Could they possibly borrow the key that all locksmiths have, which opens every lock?
At Lock Stock & Barrel, selling lock hardware is never simply a matter of taking a box off the shelf and handing it over to the customer. We work to make sure that, when a customer purchases a lock from us, it is the hardware that they want and need. There are different grades of lock, ranging from residential to heavy duty commercial.

Shop is short staffed and works limited hours, the see person by appointment only, lot of hassle if you are in a lock emergency!

Good work but took awhile to get the blanks. They lost my phone number so I checked back several times in 2 months and the keys had been completed.

No one ever answers the phone. No answering service. Come to find out hours are 9am to 1pm. How convenient. Dropped by to have special key made. Custom order. They said three days. "We will call you". After 2 weeks, I called to follow up. No record of order! "We will look into it and call you back". No return call after 5 days. Do not bother here. Completely unprofessional and unreliable.

Solid business - they cut custom keys that other non locksmith places that also cut keys wont. Simple, fast, and affordable. Their hours are short so.

Came here because I needed a basic key copy onto a "fun" key. I initially checked another place but they didn't want to be liable for messing it up which I thought was odd because isn't it done by machine anyways? Anyways, the only struggle I had was trying to figure out the hours online -- they weren't posted anywhere so I finally went and their hours are 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Key was quick, easy, and affordable. Hard to find an actual person to help cut because the minute key machines suck! They always leave terrible edges!

Amazing people. If you can't find it, they probably have it. And if they don't, they can probably help you get it. Service is honest and frank. No frills, but they'll always be respectful!

Critical: Professionalism Do not follow through on scheduled service calls, don't call to advise they coudn't make it. Nothing. Then they don't answer when you call to follow up. Don't waste your time with this company.

Five stars. The owner of Lock Stock and Barrel has helped me out on hardware specs a couple of times. Very friendly and willing to take questions and make recommendations.

These guys seem to be very no-nonsense hard-working roll up your sleeves and get to it kind of guys. I had an issue with a medeco lock and they were very persistent in fixing it and where very reasonable with the cost. I would highly recommend these guys for their quick schedule expansive knowledge and tenacity. One nice thing that I learned recently is that if they agree to take on your job and cannot complete it for whatever reason, there is no charge.

This really sets them apart since many companies will charge you for 'shop time' even if they cannot fix the issue. However, in those situations, I think that it might still be prudent to 'tip' them for their time even though it isn't required. Also if they cannot fix the issue they will try to send you to a company that can fix it. I highly recommend these guys and will continue to work with them in the future. If this review helped, please hit 'Like'. Thanks.

I brought in an old surface mount deadbolt lock. I had no keys, and there was a part missing from the lock. Same day the The lock was repaired, and the price was very reasonable. Plus I now also have three keys for the lock. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

This review is based on the only exchange I've had with Lock, Stock and Barrel. I went in with a photo of the accidentally closed lock of a 1920's steamer trunk lock, wondering if they could pick it for me. The fellow said probably not, and went in back to check. He said that they've had poor luck with such locks. So, I asked if I could bring it in and they could drill it.

He said they don't have the room for this! I asked if I could drill it myself. "Yes." So, what kind of bit would he suggest. Oh no, he said, we don't give advice because we don't want to be responsible for people's property. So, I have a thought or two. I can't recall the last time that a merchant flat out refused any sort of advice.

Any at all. It was as though he wanted to generate bad will, not good will, and my reaction is what one would probably expect of a customer: frustration, dissatisfaction, anger, and, oddly enough, boredom. Probably too many 'no' answers in a row. Oh, and you might try A-1, as it turned out. OKAY! Two months later from the above review and engagement: I learned to pick the lock, and picked it, in an hour, after having known absolutely nothing about it all.

So this guy at this place was, essentially, a lazy jerk. I do intend to tell him so, at the counter. in a way that won't cause trouble, but just for feedback, and my own good feelings!

The gentleman there produced a working spare key for me from a pretty worn down original. This was my third attempt to get one after having gone to one of the bigger hardware stores twice before and gotten keys that didn't work. It was cheaper, too. I was in the place for less than a minute. I won't go elsewhere from now on.

On Thursday May 14, 2015 the owner or an employee representing the company of Lock, Stock and Barrel verbally accosted and threatened my wife, my three young children ranging from 9 years old to 4 months and I. We were parked in a five minute drop off zone on Elm Street next to the Portland Public Library. My wife was in the process of dropping me off at work.

We had just parked at the spot about a minute before a minivan with the Lock, Stock and Barrel logo on its side arrived. The driver stopped behind us double parking for a moment before he drove up beside my open window and asked gruffly if we were leaving. I responded that we were leaving in a few minutes. He then backed up to his previous position, double parking behind our vehicle and stayed there for 30 more seconds.

He then pulled up alongside us pulling up slowly and deliberately as close as he could get his van to my passenger side door. He then slowly opened his door very nearly hitting the side of our vehicle with his door as he had stopped within 12-15 inches of us. He made a production of getting out while he was blocking traffic by double parking despite the fact that there were other parking spots open on the same side of the street.

The driver then angrily implied that we were in the wrong by parking in a drop off zone. He said that the five minute drop off zone spot was only for dropping off library books in the night deposit slot. I responded that no, the spot was meant for dropping off passengers and that we were legally parked and would be leaving in a few minutes. He then got back into his vehicle (after leaving the door open blocking us in which didn't even allow me to open my door.) and for the third time backed up his van into oncoming traffic coming down Elm Street and double parked behind us.

I assume that he was then taking down our license plate for whatever reason, but both my wife and I felt very threatened. I especially felt worried and alarmed about leaving my wife and our nine and six year old sons and four month old daughter; not knowing if he would be waiting down the street to further accost them while I was left at work. Road rage is a very real problem in today's society.

It is especially horrendous when committed against a defenseless woman and her children because the driver felt like he was inconvenienced while dropping off library books. It is especially unwise when you commit road rage while in the business of a company that you are representing with its company vehicle. Not only will I never use the services of Lock, Stock and Barrel, but I will recommend to my friends, family and co-workers that they not use their services as they are represented or owned by a white haired, graying middle aged man in his mid to late 50's wearing glasses and a ball cap who has many anger issues.

In and out within 3 minutes! Had to copy 2 regular door keys and they came out to be $5 total. Private lot, quick, friendly, and professional service. Couldn't ask for more!
